CUEB Successfully Holds 2010 Urban International Forum
Co-sponsored by CUEB and Beijing Federation of Social Science Circles, the “2010 Urban International Forum” was held in Beijing on September 11th and 12th. About 110 experts and scholars from more than 30 institutes located in China Mainland, Taiwan, the US, South Korea and Mexico etc attended the forum. Meanwhile, eight media, including People Daily, Guang Ming Daily and Qiu Shi, reported the Forum.
Professor Yang Shizhong, Vice President of CUEB, chaired the opening ceremony, and Professor Ke Wenjin, Secretary of Party Committee of CUEB, gave a speech. Ke pointed out that CUEB was willing to provide academic support and academic exchange platform for the momentous strategic target of “Constructing Beijing into a World City”, and to become the think tank serving capital’s economic and social development. Shi Qiuqiu, the Standing Vice President and Secretary of Party Leadership Group of Beijing Federation of Social Science Circles, extended her warm congratulations to the opening of the Forum. She indicated that the Urban International Forum continued to hold to the tenet that we should keep pace with the times and combine theory with practice, and always retain the spirit of thinking independently and exploring actively. She believed that with the participations of a large number of experts, scholars, teachers and students, this forum would achieve expected success.
Wang Liding, Deputy Secretary of Beijing Municipal CPC Committee and Director of Beijing Municipal Committee Research Office, and Fu Hua, Deputy Director of the Committee's Publicity Department were present at the opening ceremony and gave speeches. Mr. Piao Taiquan, Chief of Korea branch of Asian-Pacific City Seminar and former Director of Korea Cultural Tourism Ministry, and Professor Liang Shoude, former Chief of International Politics Association of China’s University, also gave speeches at the opening ceremony. After the ceremony, with the theme of “Changing Economic Development Mode and Forming the Basis of World City”, the participants had a discussion for a whole day. Altogether 10 scholars gave keynote speeches and 5 experts made comments.
Professor Gao Chuang, Assistant to the President of CUEB hosted the closing ceremony. Chen Zhichang, Deputy Secretary of Party Leadership Group of Beijing Federation of Social Science Circles, made a comprehensive and precise conclusion in terms of forum features, significance and exchange results. In the meantime, Professor Wang Chuansheng, Vice President of CUEB delivered a closing address and wished that the Urban International Forum would have a bright future in terms of exploring truth, serving Beijing, facing the whole country and stepping into the world.
The Forum had three close-door discussions on September 12th where experts and scholars made in-depth and heated academic discussions on three topics: “Theory and Practice on World City Construction”, “Transformation of Economic Development Mode” and “Evaluation Index System for Beijing World City Development” analyzing the ideas and new problems in the academic front and practice. The participants spoke highly of the academic exchange results achieved during the seminars.
